Blackberry 9850 TORCH Accessories
BlackBerry 9850 Torch
Once a leader in the world of advanced mobile communications, BlackBerry has fallen behind a bit in recent years. With the unveiling of the BlackBerry 9850 Torch for the Sprint network in the United States, though, it is clear that RIM is ready and willing to compete with the other smartphone brands that now dominate the market. While other touch screen models from BlackBerry have received mixed reviews, the BlackBerry 9850 Torch is a solid addition to Sprint's BlackBerry lineup.
9850 Torch Design
The BlackBerry 9850 Torch displays a strong departure from other BlackBerry devices. With sharp angles and a large screen that dominates the front of the device, the Torch 9850 is clearly one of the most visually appealing products that bears the BlackBerry name. Standing 4.7 inches tall and measuring 2.4 inches wide by 0.45 inch thick, it isn't one of the biggest phones on the market, but it also isn't one of the smallest. Weighing in at 4.8 ounces, it has some nice heft to it that makes it very comfortable to hold.
The 9850 Torch offers the BlackBerry's largest touchscreen to date. It measures 3.7 inches, has a WVGA resolution, and support for 16 million colors. As a result, the screen looks very clear from most any angle. Even in direct sunlight, the screen remains visible. The phone's sides are slightly rounded and coated in a rubberized material. The sides of the device are home to its volume rocker and camera shutter button. All in all, the BlackBerry 9850 Torch has a sleeker and more industrial look and feel than many other products offered by the brand.
9850 Torch Features
The BlackBerry Torch 9850 runs on the RIM BlackBerry OS 7 operating system which offers an abundance of new features including voice-activated search, liquid graphics display, and more. As one of the few BlackBerry devices that does not include a physical keyboard, the on-screen keyboard is a concern for many consumers. Though accuracy can be a bit tricky from time to time when using a virtual keyboard, the BlackBerry OS 7 virtual keyboard is responsive and fairly accurate in making suggestions.
Like most smartphones, the BlackBerry Torch 9850 comes with standard features like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support and GPS. The signature email system BlackBerry users have grown accustomed to is also present. Other features include text, multimedia, and instant messaging and integration to social networking sites including Facebook and Twitter.
The back of the Torch 9850 features a 5-megapixel camera that takes photos that are clear, sharp, and relatively true to color. While outdoor photos are best, the Torch 9850 does take decent indoor photos as well. The camera is simple to use and can be used for still photography or as a camcorder.
9850 Torch Performance
The BlackBerry 9850 Torch runs on Sprint's 3G network and has a 1.2GHz processor. Though is not at the head of the pack in terms of the latest technology, it performs relatively well, and it is a solid smartphone for those who are looking for a BlackBerry.
