The LG MyTouch 4G has a very solid build in comparison to many of the the other Android phones currently offered by T-Mobile. Weighing in at 5 ounces, it is a bit heavier than some other devices on the market, but it gives it that more solid feeling. Measuring just 4.8 inches tall by 2.4 inches with and just 0.4 inch thick, it is sleek and slender enough to slip in a pocket or compartment with ease. Many users like that it is a little heavier simply because it is harder to accidentally leave it in a pocket. On the outside, the device features stainless steel in some areas and a soft touch finish around the edges that makes the phone comfortable to hold.
The front of the MyTouch 4G is home to a 3.8 inch WVGA touchscreen that can be customized with five or seven home screens. The screen offers bright, vibrant colors, and it is very responsive to touch. Apps launch quickly and without lag, and other motions like pinch to zoom and scrolling are fast and smooth. In addition to the usual Android buttons for Home, Back, and Menu, there is a T-Mobile Genius Button which replaces Android's search button. The Genius button launches a voice command application that allows users to search the web, launch apps, make calls, or compose messages by speaking to the device.
The LG MyTouch 4G runs on Android 2.2 and supports T-Mobiles HSPA+ network. While it is actually an enhanced 3G network rather than a true 4G network, it certainly offers speeds that are on par with true 4G networks. Download and upload speeds are remarkably fast. Even high quality HD videos can be opened and played smoothly within just a few seconds.
The LG MyTouch 4G includes a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera with flash that is capable of HD video recording and has numerous options for editing including face detection, white balance, and ISO. Photo quality is decent outdoors, but it images taken indoors tend to seem soft, and the colors are muted. The phone also has a front-facing camera for video calling, but it is often glitchy, which is one of the primary downfalls of the device.
