LG VS700 ENLIGHTEN Accessories
LG VS700 Enlighten
What smartphones and other mobile devices becoming increasingly powerful each year, many of the most popular devices are simply out of reach for those who are on a budget. Recently, though, there has been a push to fill the gap in the market between basic feature phones and top-of-the-line smartphones. The LG VS700 Enlighten for Verizon is one of the latest products to offer basic smartphone performance at an affordable price.
Design and Style
The LG Enlighten is a bar style phone with a slide out QWERTY keyboard. It measures 4.5 inches tall by 2.3 inches wide and is 0.58 inch thick. Weighing in at 5.5 ounces, it is a bit bulkier than some of its competitors, but is appropriate considering the keyboard. The devices is made of a dark gray plastic and has a rubberized soft touch back cover. The front is dominated by a 3.2 inch capacitive touch screen that is right on the mark in terms of color and brightness for a budget device. Below the screen are the four physical buttons that are common an Android devices – menu, back, home, and search.
The slide out QWERTY keyboard is a very nice touch for those who are less than comfortable using a virtual keyboard. The keyboard is roomy, and the buttons are spaced nicely. In addition, they are slightly raised, so they are easy to feel and offer a subtle “click” when pressed. In addition to letters, the keyboard also has number keys and four way navigation keys.
Performance and Features
The LG VS700 Enlighten comes with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and an 800MHz processor that allows for quick and responsive performance on Verizon's 3G network. The phone features seven customizable home screens and all the features Android users have come to expect. In addition to fast and easy integration with a number of Google searches including search, Gmail, Maps, YouTube, and many others, Android users also have access to the vast Android Market where it is possible to find apps for nearly any task.
A basic music player app is included and provides a decent listening experience. Videos also play relatively well. The camera on the LG Enlighten is one of the greatest disappointments for many users. At just 3.2-megapixels, it is way below the standard for even the most basic smartphones. It does not have a flash, and auto-focus is slow. Both photos and videos taken with the device tend to be disappointing, especially indoors.
Conclusions
The LG VS700 Enlighten is a solid device for consumers who are looking for the basic features of a smartphone without the smartphone price. With the latest Android operating system, it performs pretty well and allows users to easily check email, browse the web, use apps, and perform a number of other tasks while on the go. The QWERTY keyboard makes it a good choice for those who are not fond of virtual keyboards. The largest drawback of the Enlighten is the poor quality camera that, for some users, is unacceptable.
