One of the biggest downfalls of the Droid 3 is that it does not run on Verizon's 4G LTE network. Instead, it runs on the 3G network, so it does not offer the fastest internet speeds available. When connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot, the device's internet performance is actually considerably better. The Motorola Droid 3 also has a very fast processor that should allow the phone to perform at lightning speeds, but Motorola's Android skin slows it down with custom icons and animations that can make the device perform sluggishly compared to competing devices like the HTC Thunderbolt.
Additional features are some of the Droid 3's redeeming qualities. The device can be used internationally, making it a good choice for those who frequently travel abroad. It also offers a rich multimedia experience. It features a rear-facing 8 megapixel camera that takes impressive still photos as well as 1080p high definition videos. At times, however, video playback can be a bit buggy. There is also a lower resolution VGA front-facing camera for self portraits and video calls through programs like Skype. The phone comes with 11.3GB of internal storage plus a MicroSD card slot that can support cards with up to 32GB of memory. All this space can hold a lot of multimedia including music, videos, photos, games, and apps and should be more than sufficient for the vast majority of users. Since the Motorola Droid 3 runs of the Android operating system, users have access to thousands of apps in the Android Marketplace.
Though the Droid 3 does not live up to its full potential, it may be an excellent choice for international travelers and anyone who wants a QWERTY keyboard.
