The Samsung Replenish is one of the most recent cell phones to be introduced as a green alternative to other devices. The Samsung Replenish runs on Android 2.2 Froyo, and it comes preloaded with the Sprint ID Green Pack.

This includes green apps including TreeHugger and Earth911's iRecycle app that makes it easy to find recycling centers wherever you are. There are also apps for green shopping, calculating your carbon footprint, and more. The device's standard charger is energy efficient and provides a visual alert when charging is complete. One of the most unique green features of this smartphone, though, is the availability of an optional battery cover that doubles as a solar charger.

In terms of performance, the Samsung Replenish is underwhelming at best. Its 2 megapixel camera takes both videos and photos that tend to be fuzzy and lack definition. Since it does not include a flash, shooting indoors can be problematic. One of the largest disappointments for many users is that the device's browser does not support Flash. The screen has relatively low resolution when compared to other devices, but it is appropriate considering the smaller screen size. The keyboard is responsive, but a bit narrow and could be difficult for users with large hands.

The Samsung M580 Replenish was undoubtedly created primarily as an eco-friendly device with performance taking a backseat to greener design. Because it is not loaded with top-of-the-line hardware, it simply cannot live up to the performance many people have come to expect from a smartphone. For someone who is looking for a basic, entry-level smartphone, though, it will serve the purpose quite well. With a price tag that is considerably lower than many of today's more powerful mobile devices, it will also save your wallet while helping to save the planet.
