Samsung Freeform III

Samsung has recently updated its Freeform phone; now, the Samsung Freeform III is available from Metro PCS for $49 with a $50 instant rebate. That, by the way, is the cost without any contract for this messaging phone.

Overall, the Samsung Freeform III is a competent phone, but it's not a “great” phone. This is no iPhone or Droid. A decent weight and size, the Samsung Freeform III has rounded edges with a smooth, gray back cover. This does make it a little slippery, however, so hold onto it if you get it!

The display is nice and bright – as long as you're not holding it in direct sunlight.

Good for Messaging

The full QWERTY keyboard with ridged keys is easy to use and great for messaging. Unlike some phones, though, there's no automatic spell check on the Freeform III. There's a directional pad and central select button at the top, but even so, the onscreen navigation is not as fluid as it should be. If you have sausage fingers, be warned that the Freeform III's keys and pads will be a little difficult for you to use.

Although it's good for messaging, the Freeform III is emphatically not good for web browsing. Although Metro PCS does have some 4G phones, this is not one of them. The phone is extremely slow when it comes to browsing the web – only browse in the case of a dire emergency.

The bottom line on the Samsung Freeform III is that it's a decent phone as long as you don't expect too much from it. The call quality is extremely clear and text messaging is relatively easy. If that's all you need from a phone, then the Samsung Freeform III will do the job. If you want this phone to keep up with the big boys, though, get an iPhone instead.
