Unlike other handsets, the Score will not be available for sale in Cricket's own stores. Instead, the prepaid carrier has decided to partner with Best Buy in an effort to reach a broader audience. In addition to the ZTE Score, Best Buy will also become home to an assortment of other Cricket Wireless handsets. The regular retail price is reasonable for an entry level prepaid Android smartphone.
The ZTE Score measures 4.4 inches by 2.5 inches and is 0.5 inch thick. It weighs in at 4.5 ounces, and the entire front and back are made of glass aside from a ring of plastic that separates the two halves. The front is dominated by a 3.5 inch touchscreen with 320 by 480 pixel resolution. The screen's brightness, resolution, and responsiveness are standard for budget priced smartphones.
The Score runs Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, and ZTE has added a few of their own visual customizations to the devices. Users can create and swipe through up to five home screens, and the phone itself is surprisingly responsive. With a 600 MHz QualComm processor, it isn't the fasted on the market, but it isn't bad for an entry level smartphone.
The phone includes all the usual Android perks including support for all of Google's apps and services, a decent web browser, and access to the vast Android Market. It has a 3.2 megapixel camera that takes photos that are average at best. Videos tend to be grainy and have laggy playback. Where this phone shines most is in it's music. With Muve Music, users can download unlimited music for one low monthly price. The phone comes with a microSD card with 3GB dedicated to Muve Music and the other 1GB free for other storage. Larger cards are not yet available, but they are in the works.
